    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: North American and European guests are drawn to this moderately priced resort to enjoy day-and-night activities including after-dark shows in an open-air theater, merengue lessons, sailing contests, and pool aerobics.

Amenity highlights: Fronted by 700 yards of exquisite white, powdery sand, the beach proves irresistible. Thatch-roof palapas and palm trees furnish shade. Three lagoon-style pools offer alternatives—one for activities, one for tranquil sunbathing, and a third for children. The "quiet pool" is the largest and contains two spa sections and a swim-up bar.

Insider tip: A 10-minute walk away is a large shopping center containing Dominican gift shops.

Interspersed with thick gardens, 17 three-story, Mediterranean-style buildings without elevators provide lodging in the 877-room resort. Men and women enjoy separate steam rooms, saunas, and spas, and share a small fitness center in the health-and-beauty spa. Children have their own supervised activities and exceptionally large pool. Entire families turn out for the evening theater shows presented by the activities/entertainment staff.
